In a clear case of mawd abuse, the creators of Halo 4 promised today that any players caught making discriminatory comments on the game’s multiplayer service would be banned from X-Box Live forever. While sexist, racist, and homophobic talk can always result in a temporary ban from the service, Microsoft looks to be cracking down with the release of Halo 4, which is in stores next week. Unfortunately, Microsoft might be shooting themselves in the foot, as anyone who has ever played a game on X-Box Live knows that the entire service is populated by squeaky-voiced pre-teens whose vocabularies seem to consist primarily of homophobic, racial, and ethnic slurs.
I’m interested to see how this plays out.
